Home offices. Whether
it’s for your hobbies, or because you frequently work from home, they’re an increasingly essential part of what can make or break your next home. Unfortunately a successful home office setup isn’t just about the floorplan. It takes turning that flex space, spare bedroom, or loft, into a place where you can stay organized and on task while using your home office. Which is why we at Garbett Homes wanted to offer you a few tips that can help you keep your home office organized and beautiful. Read on to learn more.

 Home Office Form Over Function
Function First
Home offices are first and foremost workspaces. Which means that the equipment needed to get the work done should take the highest priority. For an attorney this might mean ensuring you have easy access to an archive of case law. For a graphic designer this might mean ample natural light and space to draw. For an author it might mean a nook away from all distractions. Consider your needs and plan accordingly before buying anything or deciding where exactly you’re putting your home office within your new home.

Be Intentional With Your Desk Setup
This is about more than ensuring it fits the space. Most jobs that have a remote aspect will require some type of desk. This will affect the rest of your layout. Consider where you want to place it relative to the sun. If you want drawers. What you will want in addition to your computer and what is only needed occasionally. Work, like life, will always have some chaos involved, but you can mitigate that by being thoughtful about the way you handle your desk.
 Home Office Manage Cable
Manage Your Cables
Whether it’s to eliminate tripping hazards, because you have a cat that is obsessed with string adjacent objects, or just for the aesthetics, cable management is key. There are many solutions to this problem, including storage built into some desks. Take the time to study out the ones you like and will cause the least amount of interference with your job. You will be rewarded.
 Home Office Eliminate Distractions
Reduce Distractions
Whether it’s household chores, kids, snacking, or whatever, there is plenty to throw you out of your workflow while working from home. Interfering with your ability to get your job done. Take the time to ensure that the home office in your new home reduces how you would be distracted in your home. For some people that might mean getting a good headset, for others it might mean having no speakers at all. Facing towards or away from direct sunlight. Whatever that is for you, make sure that your office is set up to keep you focused.
 Home Office Express Yourself
Express Yourself
If you can’t find ways to express your personality and passions in your home what’s the point of owning your home? That should include your home office. Whether it’s with posters and art work or small accessories on your desk. Having something that connects your life beyond work into your office can help keep you balanced in life. And connected to the things that make the challenges with work worth it.
