Grassless Localscapes Explained
In previous communities, Garbett Homes has applied Localscapes principles to reduce the amount of grass in our home’s yards. Replacing it with climate appropriate, drought-resistant plants watered by a drip irrigation system. In combination with water retaining mulch, this means that our homebuyers use less water to maintain their beautiful lawns. Grassless Localscapes just takes this a step further by removing the grass lawn portion of the yard to make the water conservation go even further.
Why Are We Doing This?
Let’s be honest, most people are attached to their grass lawns because that’s the visual in everyone’s head when they describe the American Dream. White picket fence, rich green lawn, single family home. A small castle to call your own. Grass lawns are a symbol of success! The ideal! Except, grass needs a lot of water, and doesn’t give a lot back in return. It doesn’t feed bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. You can’t eat it so growing it won’t save money on grocery bills. It’s just a high maintenance decoration, taking up most of your water consumption, meaning it’s the lion’s share of your water bill. All while being just like everyone else’s high maintenance, high water consuming, yard.
