Are you showing off your new home to your friends and family this holiday season? Are you worried that a house tour and dinner party isn’t enough? Don’t panic. We can help. The Salt Lake valley offers plenty of fun things to do around this time of year. As we have highlighted before.  We wanted to tell you about some more events throughout the valley. After all, Utah shines the brightest during the winter time.

ZooLights at Hogle Zoo

An animal themed twist on a classic tradition, ZooLights is a winter staple of the Salt Lake Valley. Now in its 17th year you and your guests can enjoy Hot Chocolate as you walk through a luminous celebration of the animal kingdom. And enjoy views of the full Salt Lake Valley on your drive home from Hogle Zoo’s location in Salt Lake City’s East Bench. Starting on December 1st and running through most nights in December, this event is a great way to start or cap off a winter night.

Ice Skating at Gallivan Plaza and Millcreek Common

You don’t need to travel to New York City to skate under the stars and skyscrapers. There are two locations here in Utah that will give you a unique twist on this Hollywood experience. First up is the skating rink at the Gallivan Plaza. Starting in Mid-November and running through February this is a great chance to connect with your neighbors and make holiday memories in an iconic part of downtown Salt Lake City. Easy access to this location thanks to Trax also means that you can avoid the stress of city traffic and show out-of-state guests all that your new Utah home has to offer.

Near the east bench another outdoor skating rink will offer you a slightly different experience. Instead of a skating rink, Millcreek Common, the home of Millcreek’s brand-new City Hall, offers a skate loop. Giving you the chance to enjoy majestic views of the Salt Lake Valley from all angles. You and your family will be awestruck as the lights of the city blend with the beauty of the mountains. Also running from Mid-November to the end of February, this opportunity will let you fall in love with your new home once more.

Holiday Windows at City Creek

You probably will already be in downtown Salt Lake City searching for that special item that says “I treasure you,” during the holiday season. Why not take a moment to admire the artistry of the Holiday Windows at the Macy’s Department Store? These whimsical scenes give shoppers an opportunity to take a break and enjoy a simple delight during this busy year. With a new theme on offer each year. Moving into a new home creates opportunities to create new traditions. The Holiday Window displays can become as treasured as the people you love.

The Festival of Trees

We finish our list with a more limited event, but an important event. Running from November 29th to December 2nd, The Festival of Trees is a Utah staple. This charity fundraiser for Intermountain Health is located at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. You will walk around a forest of themed trees that are all up for auction. This is a great chance to get ideas for your own Christmas Tree or just admire the creativity of your fellow Utahans. While supporting the healthcare initiatives of Intermountain Health, whether you buy a tree or not. Creating a better future for our state, the nation and the world.

Obviously this isn’t an exhaustive list of what you can do in Salt Lake City during the wintertime. But we hope that this selection has helped give you a sense of what your winter time fun could look like in your new home. If you feel that we’ve missed out on your favorite event, feel free to tell us about it in the comments.
