Written by Garbett Homes | Oct 4, 2024 4:45:00 PM

So, you or a loved one is moving to Utah. Welcome. Whether it’s a choice you made or circumstances have led you here, we know that you probably have questions about the state you’ll soon call home. We at Garbett Homes build homes here, because we love it here. Which is why we’re happy to give you some information about what you can expect our of this state.

Who Will My Neighbors Be?
Not only who you’re imagining. Yes. Young families with strong religious backgrounds are still part of the state. However, you don’t have almost two decades being one of the strongest economies in the nation by being one thing. Your neighbors won’t be either. You should expect your neighbors to be a mix of young professionals, recent empty nesters, mid-career transplants and more.

What is There to do for Fun in Utah?
You probably know about Utah’s status as an outdoor playground. With all the hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and skiing you could dream of experiencing. In a variety of landscapes that it’s almost as if nature spoiled us. But it’s not all there is. Utah is home to a strong performing arts scene full of quality live theater, symphonies, ballet companies and an opera. Allowing you to experience some of the richest forms of human expression. Several bookstores and gaming hobby stores also nourish Utah’s strong nerd culture scene. The opportunities are almost limitless.

An Abundance of Athletic Events
We admit it, this is an extension of the last paragraph. In our defense, when it comes to athletics, there’s enough going on in Utah to merit its own section. Utahns love sports, almost as much as they love nerdy things. The NBA’s Utah Jazz has one of the most passionate fanbases in the league ever since they arrived in 1979. Starting in October the NHL will join the fun with the Utah Hockey Club, (new name to be determined at a later date.) Soccer fans aren’t left behind either with teams in both MLS and the NWSL. Residents of the state are also spoiled for choice when it comes to Minor League Baseball, Minor League Hockey, Major League Rugby and seven universities competing at the D1 level of NCAA athletics. With all that passion going it’s no wonder that Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and is gearing up to do so again in 2034. Sports is part of Utah’s DNA from the professional level down, creating a paradise for enthusiasts and amateur athletes alike.

Limitless Opportunities
Utah is also a state full of opportunities. When it comes to job opportunities, Utah has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. A startup culture bolstered by business-friendly policies has diversified our economy in ways we’re only starting to understand. While on the social side of things our relatively low median age of early 30s means that you will have plenty of opportunities to connect with others. Living in Utah is living in a state full of potential. For those that have the courage to seek it.
